“I’m gonna be a mushroom cloud of casual!”
After prematurely telling Robin he loved her, Ted tries to “ask her out by not asking her out” by throwing a party that night, only to have her not show up . For the first two nights.
Ted- Ted tries the stalker bit and sets up a “chance” encounter with Robin while she’s reporting a kid who crawled in a claw machine after a purple giraffe. But when he invites her to their “party” next Friday and she says she’ll be out of town, the party is bumped to that night instead. But when she doesn’t show up Ted throws another party the next night and invites Robin again. And then repeats it until she finally shows up. And hits it off with a friend of theirs. Ted finally faces up to the fact that he wasn’t Robin. But Robin isn’t ready to get married now, or potentially ever. But Ted can’t turn off the fact that he wants to get married. But the two agree to try being friends.
Lily & Marshall- Poor Marshall is just trying to write his paper, but Lily keeps jumping him and Ted is throwing parties.
Barney- Barney deals with finding the one girl at the party nobody really knows and then has to figure out how to get rid of said girl when she keeps showing up at the parties.
The Mother- And so the four become five with Robin balancing them out nicely, and Ted is one step closer to getting over Robin and meeting The Mother. All in all, not my favorite episode. The show is still catching it’s stride, but it’ll get there.
