Season 1, Episode 5: Okay Awesome

“This friend of mine once waited outside for 2 hours.  Couldn’t get it.”

”A friend of mine named, ‘You’?”

“No, a friend of mine named, ‘Shut Up’.”

Ted, Barney, and Robin go out to a club (and are soon joined by Lily and Marshall) and all come to realize that things they thought they knew going in, may not be completely correct.

Ted, Barney, Robin, Marshall, & Lily (Because they overlap too much to split up!)- Because the owner of the exclusive club, ‘Okay’ goes to Robin’s gym and likes her, she gets on the list and invites Ted and Barney to come with.  After realizing they don’t act like grown-ups Lily and Marshall have been doing “grown-up” couple things, and host a wine-tasting party.  Marshall puts up with it for a little while but ends up going out the bathroom window to the club.  At the club, Ted tries to make conversation with Kelly, a friend Robin set him up with, but the music’s so loud they can’t hear each other.  (Leading to a hilarious conversation ‘How do you know Robin?’ ‘Sagittarius.’)  Meanwhile Robin tries to get into the VIP room, goes outside to call the owner and then can’t get back in.  Ted and Marshall meet up when Ted goes to leave (the coat-check girl’s Emma from Glee!) but Marshall convinces him to stay.  Ted really tries to get Marshall to go after Marshall gets a temporary crown knocked out, but he’s so determined to have fun he won’t go.

After getting bored at the wine party, Lily realizes Marshall’s not in the bathroom, and goes out the window after him.  She subsequently meets up with Robin who’s sitting out on the curb.  Robin realizes she ‘started acting like Julia Roberts’ just because she got recognized once.  Marshall goes in the bathroom to see if there’s a machine with aspirin and comes out a little high (details unknown to Ted).  Ted bonds with the coat-check girl (Emma!) over things that are supposed to be fun but aren’t.  (Parades, the Super bowl, parades, ‘I really hate parades.’)  And then asks her out.  Robin helps Lily realize she doesn’t have to grow-up just because everyone else is, and Lily helps Robin realize flashing the bouncer can get you into clubs (to the joy of the three dorky guys in line).  Barney’s been grinding with a hot redhead all night only to have her turn around.  He gets a shock when he realizes it’s his cousin.  (Naha!)  Ted and Barney find Lily, Marshall, and Robin and leave.

In the cab ride home Marshall confesses that he was hurt when Ted and Barney didn’t invite him on their fun night out.  Ted admits he’s much rather do couple-things but in order to do that he needs to find someone.

The Mother- This episode is so funny, but not in a super obvious way.  It’s more like you connect with the moments, which makes each scene hilarious.
